Hey !  a technique similar to that (posted by jweiberg back on page 4) worked for me as well on WIN 7 32 bit.

(previously I printed from my win7 64 bit laptop through a networked XP machine BUT only by tinkering around and  using the DOS version of the laserjet 1000 drivers)

For Win 7 32 bit I used the  xp drivers on the install  disc that came with laserjet 1000  but didn't use the install program rather just (as you suggested) pointed to that directory as the source for the drivers during the win 7 add printer program (used the USB001 VIRTUAL PRINTER PORT)

Using the the disc produced an " Interactive Services Detection"    warning from windows 7 about incompatibility

but ignoring that i am printing test page sucessfully

Now to see if it still works  after I reboot ..

Hi Tutor,

I tried and got pop as 'Access Denied' and I clicked three times 'OK' button in popup and got message 'Manufaturer is not listed in INI'. I do not know how to update INI. Please advise. Hp has put me in as situation. I just bought Hp Pavilian Win 7 and did not realized well working HP Laser Jet 1000 printer will not supported by Hp it self. Shame on policy / decision maker, who does not care their consumer.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
