m252dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My m252dw keeps switching itself off - so I have to go and switch it back on.

This is absurd given the low power usage (1.7w)  when in standby mode.

I have set the delay to 8hrs and also set the option to 'Delay when ports are active' - but since it is used Wirelessly this does not help.

This is a ridiculous failure on the part of HP - please release a new Firmware ASAP with a 'Never Shut Down' feature.

As I said on my other post - there is something seriously wrong with the design team at HP - for them to come up with such dumb 'features' - do they not even consult real users? Are they not real users themselves?

Please fix this - it would be a shame if I have to return such a (otherwise mostly) great printer because of this ridiculous shortcoming.

Come ON HP - wake up!

@harryw66,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out.

I understand that your HP Color LaserJet Pro M252dw does not wake up from sleep mode automatically.

Don't worry as I have a few steps that should help fix this issue.

Please perform step 11 from the link: http://hp.care/2fL9W1d

If the issue persists, then you may need to update the firmware from the link: Firmware Update Utility

Let me know how that works.

I hope you have a good day ahead.

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

My printer already has fixed IP address from when I first installed networking.

Also, I ran the firmware update last week. I checked the configuration tab and it shows firmware datecode 20160921. Which is the same as the latest firmware at the link you posted.

Regardless, of the above I don't understand how your suggestion of fixed IP is meant to stop the m252dw from swithching off completely - which is what it is doing.

My current energy settings are:

Sleep/Auto Off After Inactivity         5 Minutes
Shut Down After Inactivity                   8 Hours

Delay when ports are active [x]

8hrs is the maximum option available.

So, when it goes into Sleep/Auto off mode - that is fine, it wakes up when I print something.

But once the 8hrs of inactivity has passed it switches off completely and sending a print cannot wake it up from a shutdown. I am forced to go and switch it on manually.

As I said this Shutdown facility is absurd - since it only uses 1.7w when in sleep / auto off mode - so why does HP feel the need to make it shutdown completely?

Please ask your product teams to release a new firmware which add a Never Shutdown  option or greatly increase the timeout days not hours.

UPDATE:

I should clarify on my post above.

Until today my printer had fixed IP as configured and allocated by my router and the wireless connectivity had been 100% fine - no problems connecting and printing - provided the printer was ON.

But after your advise above I applied the settings in Step 11 and changed the Printers IP4 Config to Manual from DHCP.

Since then, two different users in my house have had problems connecting to and printing wirelessly from the printer. I also struggled to re-access the EWS. Yes - I was using the correct IP address - because I was able to access it earlier and I used the same IP address.

I had to re-run the Wireless setup in order to get access to the EWS again.

I have set it back to DHCP and let my router take care of the Fixed IP.

So, we are back to the problem - how do I stop my printer shutting down after 8hrs?
