P1606dn
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

My MacBookpro with El Capitan will not recognize the printer. The printer P1606dn has been working well on my former MacbookPro,

Have been searching for the driver on the HP site .

I got the advice from HP to use Apple software, but get empty links: Error 404: There is no content available.

Is there an updated driver for this printer. I have been spending a lot of time searching without succeeding and also asked on the HP support on FB, but only got links leading to: Error 404: There is no content available.

Does It meen that a HP Pro laserprinter from 2012, can only be trown away or is there still hope to make it work?

What can you suggest?

Perhaps the easiest way to get your P1606dn back in communication with your new MacBook Pro would be to use Airprint as the driver. To do this go to System Preferences on your MacBook Pro and then navigate to Printers and Scanners. Then in the bottom left corner click the plus button to add a new printer. If you already have an entry for your P1606dn then remove that entry using the minus button. After clicking the plus button select your P1606dn from the list and under the 'Use' dropdown select AirPrint. Airprint requires no additional drivers or downloads and is installed by default with the El Capitan Operating System.

Hi ,

I understand  you are not able to find the HP Printer driver for El captain . Please connect the Printer directly to the computer and click on Apple logo >about this mac  and click on software update. Then go to Apple logo and Printers and click on the plus sign and add the Printer.Hope this helps.

Hi,

I am sorry for the link errors. For your P1606dn, here are a couple of working links that I think can help.

1. Firmware Update Utility tool - Will update the firmware to the latest version for Mac OS X 10.11. Follow the Instructions tab at the bottom

http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-laserjet-pro-p1606-printer-series/41104...

2. Broken Link workaround - I think this might be one of the pages you were pointed to: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04510394. If you enter that URL in Google, but instead of clicking the link use the green drop-down arrow and select the "Cached" website, you should get a valid site with details on Apple Software Update.

HP Printer Drivers v5.0 for OS X

Hi,

It sounds like you tried the instructions for Option 2. If Option 1 also did not work, here are a couple of other things that you might try:

1. Repair Disk permissions. Others users have had the same warning and this helped in some instances - http://discussions.apple.com/thread/6741123?start=0&tstart=0

2. Print a configuration page. One user, SJRamsay11, had success after printing a configuration page, though that person might not have had the "cannot read disk" - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/p1102w-printer-is-not-readable-by-this-computer/td-p/...

Hi,

Could you please help me with some of the questions?

How is the printer and Mac connected, Wireless, USB,Ethernet.

Is the Mac detecting the printer as mass storage device say like how it detects a hard drive.

Thanks
