My printer makes a loud cracking noise when I turn it on & try to print.
Also, I put in a new color ink cartridge; sometimes the color looks like it has run out of ink, then the next time I print
something, the color is good

I tried cleaning the rollers like you told me. When I turned the printer on again, the loud clicking noise was gone. I can't believe that fixed the problem.
But when I tried printing a greeting card, the colored front had the lines thru it like it does when the ink is getting low.
I had just put a new cartridge so I knew it wasn't out of ink. Someone had told me to remove the ink cartridge & then put it
back in. After doing that, I printed a card & it came fine.
So I hope it takes care of my problems.
Thank you so much for your help! I was about ready to buy a new printer but it is only 3 years old.

Hello there cards-greetings,
Welcome to the Forums
I saw your post about your printer making loud noises when you try to print and the print quality issue you are having with your print outs when it does print for you. I would like to ask you if you could respond to me with some more information.
I would like to know:
Your printers model number: How Do I Find My Model Number?
Your operating system: Which Windows operating system am I running? or Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
Hope to hear from you soon!

Thanks for your info! I have looked around for some information for this type of issue.
I would recommend viewing the guide below for the noisy operation. The noise may be coming from a broken part, which if you locate a damaged part, I would suggest not troubleshooting any further. The rollers may also have debris built up on them, so cleaning them would be sufficient. Also, ensure the printer is plugged directly into the wall outlet, avoiding power bars, surge protectors, etc.
'Paper Jam' Message Displays on the Computer - Solution three - Clean the rollers
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html
Good luck
