HP Recommended

The list price for the replacement printhead is $120 from HP.  This does include a set of setup cartridges, but as you note a comparable new printer is about the same price.  (Setup cartridges for the 8600 series had the same capacity as the standard cartridges.)  Depending on your 8600 model the 8710 may actually have more features - the 8710 does automatic two sided scanning, like the 8600 Plus or 8600 Premium, but not available on the base 8600.

 

Personally I would not risk the price of a new printhead with the possibility that this would not fix the issue.
