Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Can try this:

HP Scan Extended

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

Let us know if that works.

I am an HP Employee. Although I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

thanks for the quick reponse. I followed your instructions and ran the "HP Scan Extended" set-up wizard and received a message that the software had been installed successfully.

however when I click on my scanner desktop icon it refuses to start up the scanner (which is turned on, and the USB cable is connected as usual). When I open up the HP Scanjet G4010 properties "window" it states that "this device is working properly".

I thought that maybe the existing driver was glitching, hence my request to you for a replacement.

When I open up the "Driver File Details" window there are actually six files listed. The most recent is (2013) from Hewlet-Packard Company and filed as C:\Windows\system32\hpgtg400.dll

Perhaps there is something really basic that I am missing  🙂

Hi,

Generally your scanner is retired and no longer supported, any software is no longer available at hp.com.

However by searching HP forums I were able to locate its latest Windows 7 software,  Download and install the HP Full Feature Software for your scanner below:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL53011/dp-127896-4/setup_full_G4010_140_222.exe

Be sure not to plug the USB prior the installation asks to.

Thank-you Shlomi for making the extra effort to locate the Windows 7 full feature software for my "retired" (same as I !) scanner. I uninstalled all prior HP scanner software first, then installed the new software - and when prompted - connected the USB cable to my (turned on) scanner. The installation was "successful" and "completed" and when the new desktop icon was clicked to open - an error box appeared stating that the "HP imaging device was not found" followed by several practical steps to try to resolve this problem. These were all followed (plus I also tried using a different USB cable).  Unfortunately the same error message box continues to appear - the extended error information is

8,[(1,0,-1)]

Strangely enough, when I open the Windows 7 "Devices and Printers" page it continues to report that my scanner is "working properly". And when I plug "in" or "out" the USB cable the usual Windows "sounds" are heard.

anyways, thanks again for your help - especially considering you volunteer your time.

much appreciated,

Michael
