On the printer I receive an error message "paper out".  I have cleaned the rollers to no avail.  I have noticed that a roller on the right side of the printer DROPS DOWN to contact the paper.  However, it retracts just prior to the "out of paper" error message.  Could the printer be "out of time"?  Is there something that I can do to correct this timing issue?  Thanks, in advance.

Hi @acommonman,

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I see from the post that you are getting an error message on your HP OfficeJet printer. Don't worry we'll work together to find a solution for you,

Are you connecting the printer directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector?

Did you check the condition of the paper?

Have you tried to clean the cartridges and the rollers?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

Thank you, Biswajeet,

I have done that.  There is a timing inssue with a roller that drops down to shove paper into the rollers.  It retracts prematurelly in the print cycle.  I have a timing issue, not a slippery roller issue.

Thanks for your response.

Hi @acommonman,

Thank you for replying,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

I understand you have followed the steps suggested in the previous post but still having an issue with false paper out message. Don't worry as I have a few other steps which should help to resolve this concern,

Next thing, I would suggest here is to perform a Semi-full reset on the printer. Could you provide me with the right product number to provide you with the accurate steps?

If your product is HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One Printer series. I am sending you a private message with the steps to reset the printer. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.

Let me know if that helps. Thank you!

Cheers!
