Why is the Print and Scan Doctor unable to repair a simple IP address change? Tthe Software finds the printer and reports the correct new IP address but it scans for minutes bein unable to communicate with the printer. Even if the printer is accessible via browser interface.

I could correct the problem by setting up using the Printer Setup & Software utility from the printer software.  But afterwards it prompts with "Select a Printern" and has two printers connected when starting the software. How can I remove the disfunctial one?

Why does the  Print and Scan Doctor not suggest this solution or better automatically perform it?

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

The  Utility actually has a feature to Update IP address, without the need for a new printer added.

One good way is to Uninstall the software, which should remove both printers and then reinstall again.

This resource will help you to install:

http://123.hp.com/us/en/

Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.

If you are not sure how to do this, the following resource will walk you through the steps:

How to Uninstall Download & Reinstall a Printer software

Hope that helps!

This is a very bad answer you gave me for my question. Altough one fo the suggestions is wrong:

The Print and Scan Doctor I mentiones in my post has no feature to change the IP address.  It will find the correct  address but it cannot change it in the driver. Is it not the job of such a utility to check whether the IP address in the diriver is correct before scanning for minutes using the wrong address?

The feature to change the IP address will be found in the Printer Software. You have carefully to read the link text before you click the link: After using the utility you have ro restart the printer software. The utility works, it changes the IP address but without restarting the Software it will not work. Would it not be better to move the instruction to restart the software after it has been used?

By the way the solution to remove the erroneous printer from the list I found was:

Go to Control Panel (Old fasioned for Windows 10: right click the Sart Button and select Control Panel), click " View Devices and Printers" then right click the erroneous printer and select "Remove Device".

Is HP really willing to improve their software instead of always suggesting to reinstall the software over and over again?

No kudos for your repy.

Hi @TJakober

Thanks for your feedback, the Utility we were referring to was that from the Printer software. Example.

Thanks.
