Having trouble with the sheet feeder on our HP 7612. The sheet feeder has now stopped recognizing when paper is inserted into it - the pin-pon sound doesn't occur when sheets are inserted, and the software doesn't recognize when paper is inserted and so won't scan via feeder. I have done all the usual troubleshooting and have inspected the paper detector mechanism in the sheet feeder. I cannot see any obvious way in which the mechanism is malfunctioning. Has anyone else run into this problem, and if so, been able to solve it? Much obliged for any help.

Hi @xlator,

As I understand you are having issues with the ADF not detecting paper when inserted. Don't worry as I have a few steps to help you get through this concern,
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you tried to clean the rollers and separator manually?
Have you checked for any obstructions inside the printer?
Have you tried to print something?
In the meantime, let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the printer?
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
For more details, please follow the steps suggested in this support guide: Click here
If you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue, I would personally suggest this could be a printer hardware. Thank you for your response, Jeet. I have already tried what you suggest and haven't had any luck. Note that the problem is with the sheet feeder on the scanner, not with the printer sheet feeder. I suspect, as you do, that the problem is with the scanner sheet feeder hardware. I was hoping perhaps someone else had encountered this problem and knew of a fix.
Much obliged.
