**My fix for the problem**
I bought one of these printers on eBay and previous owner had already removed the plastic film - so my ADF jammed every time (probably why I got it so cheap).
Thanks to this forum I found out what the cause was.
Fix I came up with was to cut a new iPad 9.7 screen protector (purchased for couple of quid in my local supermarket) to fit the ADF window (it's not quite a perfect width, but does cover the scanner). I then used a tiny piece of scotch tape at each end to hold it in place.
Result - perfect ADF scanning every time.
I like this approach better than using scotch tape all the way across the scanning window as it avoided the problem of bubbles and I wasn't risking a sticky residue on the glass.
Much easier than sending it back to HP!

I so wish I had found this before I unpacked the machine. I came across this after getting constant paper jams after removing the film. In this case I did have the foam strip, however underneath it was a yellow sticker indicating to remove the plastic strip which of course caused the constant jams.
i had thrown it in the bin but fortunately managed to recover it. The feeder is working even though the strip is torn so if there is a way to get a replacement I would dearly like to do that. Can someone at HP let me know how to do this?
Dissapointing as it's a great machine otherwise.

Somebody must have been told to save $0.17 on the design. I hope HP thinks this part through on their successor line of AIO's. What's that, one less zip-tie in the wiring loom inside? Maybe less tape on the box?
So lame.

Did the exact same thing, have the exact same problem :(.
Does HP can provide a replacement plastic film so that everyone can solve the problem?
Honestly it would be low-cost and would make everyone happy.
AND please change your explanations of unpackaging and add a larger image telling us NOT to remove this plastic film..!

Hi, i had the same problem and i am looking to find on the web this plastic film to buy , but i did not get anything .
Why HP can loose customers only for 1 $ spare part ? The printer is excellent and i am more than very happy with,
but everytime i use it and i hear the noise coming from the broken plastic film that i tried to apply back again after
removing it, make me thinking on those concerns . Please HP give us just a part number and a place where we can buy
this plastic film . Thank you .

I followed this thread. I found it on Google.
I have the same problem.
I didnt want to return the printer, cause i just spent 2 hours on configuring it as i want it.
Anyway, i found the solution !! Pretty simple one! SEE BELOW PHOTO THAT I MADE !
If you removed the see-through plastic and the white plastic as well. there is not a problem yet.
Just place the see-through plastic (this is the large plastic that you removed from the flatbed) on the spot where the white plastic was glued.
So what you will get is that the see-through plastic will be the only plastic attached. Where you attach it it on the glued spot at the small vertical read-glass at the far left, which is actually on the direct left of the flatbed glass. You see a small vertical glued sidebar, you can feel it when you put your finger vertically across, you feel the glue. On this glued vertical part you place, as i said earlier, the see-through plastic, make sure the glued part of the vertical see-through plastic is directly attached to the glued part of the small vertical read-glass at the far left, the glued part of that read-glass at the far left is actually the plastic right small veritcal side of that read-glass. When those glued parts connect you flap the see-through plastic to the full left, which means that it hangs over de small vertical read-glass. Which is no problem cause the scans are being made through a see-through plastic, so the scans go out fine.
This instantly solved my problem. I tested it with 1 ADF A4 page scan, and with 30 pages. It all worked fine. Mailed the pdf to e-mail and i use the copy function as well. Both worked perfectly.
I would understand if you didnt really follow my text above. So i attached a photo i just made.
Hopefully this will help more people!!
Good luck.

Too late for me. I removed the plastic and now my paper jams every time i try to use the paper feeder.
So what do I do now? How can I get a replacement piece of the plastic? Or where should I take the printer so that they can replace the plastic and/or the entire scanner glass assembly?
I'm in Richmond, VA.

Hey rwh1955 from Richmond,
This is what user HPH1 said in the thread earlier, as a simple resolution:
"Fix I came up with was to cut a new iPad 9.7 screen protector (purchased for couple of quid in my local supermarket) to fit the ADF window (it's not quite a perfect width, but does cover the scanner). I then used a tiny piece of scotch tape at each end to hold it in place."
Maybe that will work for you too? I hope so. I think you should cut and place the sreen protector as on my photo. Cause if you place it like that it should work. Maybe you need some glue, but maybe scotch tape works as user HPH1 said.
Good luck.
