I've been using the Officejet pro 8600 premium for over 3 years to print letters, documents and photos. I use Photoshop and most of the time I've gotten great photos from the printer using hp papers/ink. Recently Ive been getting dark photos and haven't changed any drivers or profiles.
My monitor I keep calibrating using a spyder 4 colorimeter. The only way to correctly get a print to come out right is to first turn the brightness down to 4 and then make adjustmests to the photo. However doesn't that mess with the spyders color calibration. Is there anm easier fix? TIA

Hi @cyberwasp,
Thanks for stopping by the HP forums. A very good day to you. 🙂 I understand that you require assistance regarding printing issues with Photoshop It will be a delight to help you. 🙂
.
Spectacular troubleshooting, superb description and splendid analysis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂 You are a valued Hp customer and I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.
- Did you make a few copies of these photos directly from the printer to isolate the issue?
- Did this happen after a software or windows update? Do you remember?
- Have you tried to print photos using another application?
For a start make copies of photos directly from the printer to isolate the issue,
- If it copies fine without hassles, try with another application like MS Word or MS paint to check if the photos print correctly.
- If these applications print correctly, then the issue could be software related. Please try to uninstall Photoshop and reinstall it again and check again. This should do the trick for you.
Finally, if nothing works, please uninstall the printer drivers by performing these steps:
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Remove all instances of the same.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
Later reinstall the full feature software from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/HP-Officejet-Pro-8600-e-All-in-One-Printer...
This should do the trick for you.
Please keep me posted. I will keep a watch for your reply.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂 Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.
If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂

Apparently we had the same idea. Have reinstalled the software, printed/copied from a memory card. recalibrated the monitor. for some reason the printer still is printing at about 1.5 stops less than the original. I even tried new HP cartridges. Sounds like it's time for a new printer. Unless there's a way to adjust the printer profile.

Hi @cyberwasp,
I reviewed the post comprehensively. Superb effort, splendid persistence and great presence of mind to try and resolve the issue. You've done great. Don't throw in the towel yet, please. I don't live in Bill Gates' neighborhood and I don't expect you too.
If you are able to make copies directly from the printer without any intervention or communication from the computer, then the printer may not be faulty. Please follow the steps in my previous post to uninstall and reinstall the printer software. Then update the printer drivers from the same link if it is available. if it still does not work, then only 2 devices could be the culprits.
One is the printer and the other is the computer. So please backup all your files and reinstall windows on your computer to factory settings. Then try to install the printer. It should do the trick for you. If it still does not work, then you could think of buying a new printer. Please keep me posted. I will keep a watch for your reply.
I understand that there is a lot of work involved, but you could save some money too.
Also, you've been absolutely superb to work with considering your profound technical expertise. I thank you for giving me the privilege to share this platform with you.
I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved and the printer works great and stays healthy for a long time to come.
Trust me I've done all I can to assist you, by keeping your best interest in mind.
Please keep me posted. I will keep a watch for your reply.

You take care, stay healthy, keep smiling big and have a blessed year ahead.
