I have a HP Photosmart 2575 all in one.  I keep getting a error message that the carriage is jammed, but when I open the door there does not appear to be any jam.  I  do not see anything in the way and I can move the carriage freely.

I am using Windows XP Pro.

All suggestions are welcome.  I could not find any repair shops for an ink jet.

Hello whit66,

Thank you for the information. At this point, the half a page printing, and still getting the error message for Carriage Jam. I have included a link to another HP Forum post that you can try, 'Carriage jam will not clear'. Please follow the steps outlined by Bob_Headrick.

For the half a page printing, does it start printing the top of the page, and then stop? Do you have to pull the rest of the page out? Or does it sound as though it is printing the rest of the page, but comes out blank?

Looking forward to hearing from you. 🙂

Hi whit66,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Not all the time when you see the Carriage Jam error message, doesn't mean that the carriage doesn't necessarily move. This could be a false error, or there could be something in the carriage path. I have included the document ''Carriage Jam' Error Message Displays on the Control Panel'. Please follow through the steps in order for the best possible results.

Please let me know the outcome of the troubleshooting. Smiley Happy

I have tried the steps as outlined. I removed the cartridges and found a good supply of old gooey ink which we tried to remove with some q tips.  I replaced the 2 cartridges and did several test prints as outlined.  The printer printed just fine but it will not print a document-I get the same error message.  After several opening and closing the lid several times it will print but now it will print  only 1/2 of the page.

Any more suggestions?

Thanks for your reply.  The print started at the top and went about 1/3 down and then stopped printing and the paper continued to come out as if that was all there was to print.i did not have to remove it from the printer .

I just tried to print another document. As soon as I hit print, the cartridge move and then lock up about to the right edge of the paper. I open and close the door and hit OK again and the cartridge moves to the far right and stops. I hit OK again and after lots of noise of getting paper to feed, it did print the entire sheet this time.  I then hit print again and printed the same doc.  without  any hesitation.  I tried another doc. and it would not print-cartridge jam.  I opend the door, briefly taking each cartridge out and putting back, it printed ok.  Then the screen now shows cartridge jam.  i tried the same doc again, no print- open the door move the cartridges a little to the left, took the cartridge  out (unlock and replaced), hit ok and  it printed. It then printed the same doc twice in row. Tried another doc, printed ok with no hesitation but now reads cartridge jam. Opened the door-move the cartridge carrier(it clicked ) -unlock/ replace cartridges-hit print and it printed-tried the same doc again-printed ok-tried again-printed ok-no error message- tried again- no problem -no error message. Have now tried a 4th doc-printed ok-no error message.

Maybe the printer is now OK?  Thanks for you help. Please reply and if I need more help I will contact you again.

I tried the steps as outined to clean the encoding strip-Printer seem to work ok.  There was a fair amount of old ink on the stirp which came off easily. Printed worked ok on test print sheet and on (2) documents. I think the problem is now fixed.  I really want to thank all for their imput.  Whit66!!
