Most times the issue is the toner cartridge is defective. To test, put one sheet on the feeder and do a self test. When the back edge of the paper enters the printer, quickly open the toner door to stop the printing. Remove the toner cartridge and look at the image below. If the defect is present the toner cartridge is bad and needs to be replaced. If the defect is not present then the fuser teflon sleeve has gone bad and needs to be replaced. For this you will need service.

If the issue is the fuser it will probably cost more than the printer is worth to repair.
