I have 8600 HP printer that has worked fine for several years. Had a paper jam and went thru steps to clear it. The display screen shows improper shutdown message and that damage may occur to system. When you hit ok get paper jam message and to clear jammed paper. All areas are free of paper jam. Machine goes thru steps to reset it self and comes back to same initial message of improper shutdown. There is ink in printer and can not get it off this setting. Feel it maybe stuck in a loop of some kind. Machine is not in warranty. This maybe a software issue of some kind. Open to suggestions.

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve the paper jam message on your Officejet Pro 8600. Note that one of the steps involves disconnecting the printer power - this will cause the improper shutdown message. While this is not normally a good practice it may help resolve the paper jam message.

I have tried the steps listed in your suggestion and still get same improper shutdown message followed by paper jam message. Open to other steps to resolve issue. Do you know if there is a sensor somewhere inside that might have a small piece of paper blocking it.I can find nothing in unit at all. Have blown it out with air also to make sure nothing is left inside
