HP Deskjet F4180 All-in-One Printer

Plug into USB. Win10 wont see printer.  Windows 7 can.  Try to install driver, hp directs me to Windows install.  Try windows install, Microsoft direct me to hp.  Been around the loop over 1 million times and it's always identical.  Tried connecting and disconnecting the printer, power cycling both and/or either.  Tried installing a whole suite of different tools from hp all direct me to the loop of doom.
Occasionally get directed to Microsoft Edge or Microsoft Bing.  I think hp is deliberately trying to wind me up.  I only want to print. It used to be so easy.  We used to talk about plug and pray now it's pushed me close to the edge I think I'm about to lose my head. My next printer won't be an hp and I'm thinking of digging out my old 486DX-2 running OS/2 because that connects to anything.
