Envy 5660
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hi all.

I am having an issue with my brand new Envy 5660 scanning at 1200 dpi. Any time I try to use the software, the scanner finishes the scan but I get the "HPScan Has Stopped Working" message from Windows 10. I close the software and the scan disappears. I do not have this issue if I use a lower dpi setting. The printer is connected via wifi to my laptop, and it has the latest updates installed . I  uninstalled the HP software and reinstalled it all again, but I have the same issue. The HP Doctor did not find any problems. I'm not sure what is causing the HP software to lock up at the very end. I wish it would at least allow me to save the scan before locking up.

I also have another question, is there a way to lock the scan dpi on the printer itself? I would like to make sure that the printer automatically scans photos the same way that the HP software does via the computer settings.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

The software is locking up probably because the computer is out of memory.

What are the configuration of your computer?  1200 dpi is really a high resolution, 600 dpi would typically be more than sufficient for most users.

Assuming that you are referring to the Scan to Computer feature?

This example will show you how to "lock the scan dpi"

How to use "Scan to Computer" feature properly

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply.

The laptop has 8 GB of memory. This lock up only happens if I am using the standard 5660 software. I used the Windows scanner and it worked fine. I also installed HP Scan and Capture and it works fine.

As far as the second question,  I watched the videos and I should be good to go. If I understand correctly, the printer remembers whatever the last setting was in the scanning software on the PC.
