MFP M277dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have the MFP M277dw for my small business. I have a dedicated phone line for the fax. I can send outbound faxes without issue. I can't receive incoming though. I get a fax confirmation printout with a result of  "No Fax Detected". I have run the self diagnostic several times and the machine always says all sytems are good.

Hi brain2900,

Welcome to the HP Support forum.

I understand that you have an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw Printer that you are able to send faxes with but unable to receive faxes even though everything passes on the fax test. I would like to help with that.

Most fax reception problems are caused by telephone line conditions. Many telephone companies offer services that are intended to notify you of voicemail during a call or prevent unwanted calls. These services can block calls or interfere with the fax transmission and cause the fax to fail. If there are any of the following services on the telephone line connected to the printer, contact the telephone service provider for its recommended solution.

- Voice mail

- Privacy block

- Security screen

- Anonymous call rejection

- Privacy manager

- Any other service that screens or intercepts incoming calls

A distinctive ring service, if it is available from the telephone service provider, often resolves this issue.

If you removed or changed a conflicting telephone service, try to receive a fax.

Send a fax from the printer control panel to another machine in the same building, on another phone line, or at another location with someone who can assist. If the fax is successful, have someone send a fax to your machine.

If you do not have a fax number to test with, and you live in the US, HP has a fax test service you can use. The telephone number for this service is 1-888-HPFaxme (1-888-473-2963). The fax service receives faxes and returns faxes within 5 to 7 minutes to the number contained in the fax header.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Thank you. It turns out they had me connected to a different (active) line so that my uotbound faxes were going through but the inbound were being sent to a different line within the office. Thank you for your response.
