what a joke! piece of crap. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER . . . support is even worse than the non-printing printer

Agreed.  As I said in an earlier post, I gave up and bought a Canon.  No issues at all.

I've been posting under this subject since early 2014 and am hoping I am not premature in stating that my download of an update available for the Envy 4500 appears to have finally overcome the problem!!!:smileyhappy:

Had same 1/245/16 with client, network was cable modem connected to name brand wifi for 802.11g. Computer had status offline, buffer full of repeated prints. win 7 network icon exclamation mark. Cleared out printer buffer, restarted whole network. When trying to reprint said offline but really online was buggy hp software. Could now print page with offline listed. After print went back to status page now said ready..

Suggest you stick around.  This problem has existed forever on Windows 8 (and I think win 7)

On Windows 8 this problem has been solved many times and ways, temporarily.  It seems to always come back.  It does appear fixed in Windows 10.  HP created a secondary printer with an odd name.  If you direct printout to that pseudo name, then files print, consistently in Windows 10.

I've seen the same approach tried in windows 8 by HP but it always failed later.  Go through Control Panel to printers and look for such a name.  If there direct your print files to that that "device".  If it still fails the best workaround is to connect the printer via USB cable and forget wifi (or go to windows 10).

If your fix condinues to work consistently  then kudos to you

Yes, I copied the URL from Cromcast to Microsoft Edge and the print job worked! What is the fix for this problem?

Still having a problem with this issue after a recent HP software update directly to my HP Envey 4500.  Non of my devices can print to it because they state it is offline when it is on and seemingly ready. Can HP please send out another software update to correct this?? Please ??  Devices are iPhones and iPads.   Didn't have this issue until the last software update directly from HP to my printer...

There is a button with the wireless signal icon. If you click the button it will show your printer is offline. Click the other button beside where it says System on. Then click OK, then it says booting up or something along those lines, then it connected. Basically if you click that wireless icon on the top right side by the main screen you will understand. I looked all over for this simple answer and my 10 year old son Kellar figured it out by just looking at the printer and clicking the wireless icon which I never even noticed.

Printer Envy4500 says offline but it is on.  How do I correct this?
