Hi,
as many other dumb decisions at HP, and trying to make their products as user un-friendly as possible, i have yet to see a company make so many deliberate attempts to make their products worse. Kudos to the support folks that have to put up with the ranting from users; its not personal toward you but someone upstairs needs to smell something different other than their tart smell.
Ok, to the real issue:
start the scanner part - probably double click the scanner icon on your desktop
select Advanced Settings
Select Destination tab
Uncheck the box labelled "Show Save As Dialog Box" If this box is checked, then it will ask you to name each and every scan file, if unchecked then it will automatically sequentially number the documents as the scans get saved when you select the save box.
Who in their right mind made this decision for it to appear, probably someone in the HP upper echelon on drugs. And yes, HP executives, if you want to speak about this and major issues you are creating yourselves to send business to competitors, i'll speak with you. Reply to this email.

Surely after all these years of reporting on this stupid problem, it is clear that this small company does not have the will to launch this update solely for their own commercial purposes.
Unfortunately, these people do not think that if you are where you are thanks to those poor fools like us who buy their products.
However, in this regard, I will begin to open on facebook negative campaigning on their after-sales service, I hope you can do it too, hoping that this principle of an outbreak can become a devastating fire for them.

HP is big, old and dumb...
1. Okay, the whole...scan to computer. But you see, I am rarely AT my computer. 90% of my computing is done from my phone. 98% of my email is sent from phone.
2. My printer/scanner is NOT in the same room as my computer. So requiring that I use the PC to scan means walking all the way across the house for each step.
What we want is to be able to scan, and have the documents accessible. We've got a WiFi capable printer, why can't we set it up to send emails? Or save to a wireless location.
The above post gives me an idea. I am going to try the remove the save option. And see if I can somehow set the printer to scan and automatically save to a folder on my PC. I am then going to try setting that folder to a dropbox or google drive. Thus my documents will be available to my phone.
*facepalm*
Billion dollar companies like HP, Microsoft, and they can't think.

Hi,
are you still having this problem where you are able to print but not scan? If so, a suggestion, look at the firewall and in it see if HP Scan is allowed to go through. If not then "add" the application and it will work.

The HP 1415fnw software no longer installs on windows 10. (21 March 2016)
- Was running fine until a few weeks ago (Beginning of March 2016)
- Windows 10 or HP Support assistant suddenly removed the package without any warning. (no longer have the scanner under hp)
- HP Support Assistant says everthing is fine and up to date, but my scanner has dissapeared.
- HP support assitant has removed the scanner software
- My printer still prints, but I can no longer scan in any documents.
- I tried reinstalling the 180 mb package, it gets to the point of plug in your printer, the install starts the count and then hangs and evetually gives an error.
- Tried it on my wifes windows 10, notebook same arror.
- Using "Windows Fax and Scan" this is not an option half the time it does not see the printer and also does not scan to pdf which all my documents need to be.
- I own 2 of these printers same result on both.
Summary:
- HP 1415fnw no longer install on windows 10
- Support assistant has removed the scanner
Goal:
- Need to scan documents into PDF on a HP 1415fnw
Please get this fixed.
