Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Attempted to Scan.  All attempts to Scan are unsuccessful.  The message states:  make sure that the scanning software is installed on your computer and that "Scan to Computer" is enabled.  I get this message whenever I try to scan.   I've successfully printed from computer to this same printer since I bougt the computer.  I can also print from my iphone and ipad.   This mac doesnt have a disc drive.  I have found troubleshooting solutions for Windows regarding this problem but not for a Mac.  Since the printing is working well I don't want to re-install the software because I dont want to mess it up.

Please help

Hi @coollady,

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for the First Time Here? I see that you are having issues while scanning on your printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you to resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details.

What is the product number of this computer? (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

Are you able to make a standalone copy from the printer?

Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting this on HP Forums?

Let’s start by using the HP Easy Scan. You can download it from here: http://hp.care/2cXZaB1

If the issue persists, try resetting the printing system. Follow the steps here:

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  • Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you.
