I don't know what you mean by scan from computer and there is no choice for legal size from scan on the printet

What he means by "from your computer" is for you to go to your windows program files, look for the "HP" folder, click on the subfolder "HP officejet 8620" and select the "HP scan" program.  You will be able to select "legal size" (etc.) from there and then tell the printer to scan your documents right from your computer.  Yes, a bit late,  but maybe will help someone else.

If you don't have these drivers, then go to:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Officejet-Pro-8610/8620/8630-e-All-in-One-Printer-series/5367...

and download HP's drivers for your printer.

I'm unable to find the program to scan from my computer for the HP8620. I've looked in the program files and don't see a scan program.

Where can I find this functionality?

If you're running Windows on a PC (as opposed to a MAC), and you are not sure if you have HP's printer software and drivers on your computer, you can go to their help and support web site by clicking here:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Officejet-Pro-8610/8620/8630-e-All-in-One-Printer-series/5367...

This link will take you to the page for software and drivers for HP's Office Pro 8620 printer.  Along the left column, you should see one of the rectangles highlighted and pointing to a pop-out box to the right that is labeled "software and drivers".  Within that box there should be a small rectangular button labeled "check now".  Left-click on it and  follow the prompts.  If your computer asks you if you should trust this procedure, tell it "yes".

If you don't trust posted links (no offense taken) then "Google search" using the verbiage:  hp support drivers for hp pro 8620  - and you should be able to follow to the HP support site from the top Google results.

If you're ancient enought (or wise enough) to be running Windows 7, you can find the program (if you have it) by clicking on the round windows insignia at the bottom left of your desktop page, then - on the pop-up box - click on "all programs" (at the very bottom), and then scroll down until you start seeing the symbols for folders.  Look for a folder labed "HP" and left-click on it.  It will open up and show you the HP printer programs that you have, and you may see a sub-folder labeled "HP Officejet Pro 8620".  Click on that folder to open it, then  right-click on the program labled "HP scan" and, in the new popup box, select "send to desktop", which will give you a shortcut so you don't have to go through all of this rigmarole ever again 🙂 .

Sorry, can't help much with MAC or Win8 or Win 10.

Here's a video to show you how to create a scan shortcut (either on the Desktop or the Taskbar).  Video is showing scan shortcut creation on a Taskbar.

Here's the link to the OfficeJet Pro 8620 Software download link, please select the correct Operating System that you're using and we recommend that you download and install the FULL feature software.

If you are reinstalling the Printer software, we'd recommend that you Uninstall the previous driver first before Reinstalling.
