LaserJet Pro MFPM127fw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The cover will not totally close.  The panel keeps saying cover open.  I checked everything that I can see and cannot determine what is causing it not to close properly.  I had to tape it down so I can continue to print.  Any assistance would be appreciated.  thanks

Hello, @JKing1 – Hope you are well 🙂

Welcome back to the HP Forums, I'd be happy to help you with your printer issue.

Going through your post, I understand that you are getting cover open on your LaserJet printer. Also, you have mentioned that you have tried taping the printer, so to continue the work. That suggests that the printer is displaying the correct message and printer cover is not closed properly. Check below:

  • Check the printer ADF door – On the top of the printer – Open the ADF cover and close it using little force.
  • Ink cartridge access door – Open the cartridge cover, again close the cartridge door little forcefully.

Once done, try performing a power drain on the printer. Here are the steps:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Cheers 🙂
