This was also the problem on my scanner. A very small (very, very small) dot of red ink dried on the glass was creating a red (in color) or black (b&w) line down every scanned page. Now that I see what it was, it makes sense what I was seeing on the document: a repeated red dot all the way down the page that are so close together it comes out as a line.

 

Cleaned, and line is gone. It took some gentle scrubbing, as that little pinhead spot was stuck on pretty good!

my scanner is scanning but all i get is vertical lines not the document i scan

Thank you very much, i had the same issue and once i followed your instructions and clean the feeder scan glass, the line was disappered.
