deskjet 2542
Microsoft Windows XP (64-bit)

My web provider changed from 2.5 ghz (or whatever) to 5. My printer wouldn't work. i was told to make sure new provider would do 2.5ghz also. Can't seem to do that, so I bought a regular cord that connected my computer to my printer. Was stated to work for deskjet 2542 but still can't print. I have changed some things I've found to print off line, but still won't print. What to do?

Thanks

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP Deskjet 2542 All-in-One Printer and would like to make it work via USB. You have connected the printer via USB and have changed some settings, but the printer appears to be offline. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Do you have the software installed for the printer on your computer?
  • Do you still have the drivers disk that came with the printer?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor software. This is a free tool for Windows to help resolve printing and scanning problems.

Post running the HP print and scan doctor, please try to print and check. If the printer does not respond then please check if the printer drivers/software is already installed in your computer. Run that software and check if it allows you to select a connection type (wireless or USB). If that option appears, you may select the connection type as USB and continue with the installation. This will install the printer.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Please feel free to let me know the results. Cheers! 🙂
