Hi,

The scanner is not supported on Windows 10 as listed by the following document:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04635838

You may check the 3rd party Vuescan application which seems to support your scanner and will likely allow using it on Windows 10:

https://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/hp_scanjet_3970.html#technical-information

Hope that helps,

Shlomi

Just so you're aware: Windows 10, HP ScanJet 3970;   I bought the VueScan "remedy" for $89.??, ok, 90 bucks. Result: No TMA scanning, and for reasons entirely unknown.

I tested the TMA lamp (power disconnected; press BOTH scan, and Copy together; plug in the power cord) TMA lamp lights for a second or two, and scan-head keeps travelling, until power is DC'd.  Per instructions, if the lamp lights, the TMA is fine/functional.  So,   it passed.

Next, atttempted "Compatibility Troubleshooter" to no avail. (Windows Vista, Windows 64).

ViewScan was nice about refunding my 90-bucks after submitting the requested logfile. But no explanation why the scanner (with proper settings of TMA, Color, Negative) will only scan in Flatbed mode.

Test the ViewScan remedy, BEFORE buying it.

I downloaded the driver for Vista 32-bit and it worked (Windows 10 Pro 1803 64-bit)
