Hey there! @Berith, Welcome to HP forums.
I understand you are getting a problem with printhead error on your printer.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Did you make any changes to your printer?
Please try the steps recommended below.
In some cases, a printer reset can clear the error message.
Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Refer this article to further troubleshoot print head Problem with your printer.
I'll keep an eye out for your response.
I hope you have a great day! 🙂

There is apparently no programme on the nmachine to clean the printer head and I am, at a loss to know what to do.

@Berith, It's been great to hear from you again.
I appreciate your efforts for trying out the replacement.
I have checked the records and found a service advisory related to the issue you have mentioned.
This error indicates a hardware failure, and the printer requires service or replacement.

I, too, have been having this problem. I have a Officejet Pro 6830. It started when the printer was 8 months old. While using HP cartridges from Staples, I had no problem. Since I shifted over to the "Instant Ink" program, I have had a series of issues. First, the blue cartrigde began skipping, and after I had cleaned and realligned everything twice, and unplugged and replugged, they replaced it. Next, the red began skipping, I checked everything as before (clean, align, reboot, unplug and replug) and after making me go through everything another time, they sent me another entire pack of cartrigdes. Even though the screen said all were more than half full, I replaced all four. Soon, the black began to skip. (This is all documented in your own records!) Last week, the printer stopped working; what I get is a error message, "Problem With Printhead". I have gone through everything I have learned (yet again) and nothing works. I sent emails to customer service, and received a reply asking when they shcould call. I told them the best time, but they have not called IN A WEEK. I was thinkiong the problem was in the "instant Ink, and was looking for help. This thread suggests that the problem may be with the 6830.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I guess it's always dodgy and a false economy not using the HP cartridges.
My new cartridges were HP ones supplied by cartridge save.co.uk who have generously offered to collect the printer to check it. I was hoping to find a solution without resorting to sending the machine away, but as no one has come up with any other solutions I think I shall have to take this course of action.
