Printhead cleaning typically removes any ink clogging and improves the print quality. If you are facing any print quality issues then a printhead cleaning should help improve the print quality. Instructions on how to perform a printhead cleaning can be found here.

Hi, I have the same issue; printing of some documents only (image doc with text in them) produces shadowed text. word doc are fine. A photocopy is fine. I tried the hard reset but then did not help.
I changed cartridge recently and it started then.
My printer is HP Photosmart C4780.

@Bogcotton If the photocopy is working fine, and so is the word documents, exactly which program isn't working? Is it windows OS? And have you attempted a system restore to an earlier date it had been working?

the double effect occurs when i print out a PDF, or a jpeg that has some writing in it (a plan of a garden by a designer - with their details in text at the bottom). As I said word documnets or simply making a copy of a document with the printer print out fine. If it was a pdf programme problem then why the same problem with the jpegs ?
The problem only started after I changed the cartridge.
I work with a Mac computer MacOS 10.12.6
I havent attempted a system restore and not sure i know how or if i would do more damage than good with all the files on the computer !

@Bogcotton, thank you for the information.
If the photocopies are printing fine, this is not an issue with the ink cartridge. This could be a possible software/driver issue.
Check for any software updates on MAC
Click here to know how.
Re-install the printer on the MAC
1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.
4.) Click here to download the printer driver from the HP Support site.
Try printing.

Shadow is full page plus the printing how do I get rid of it - pale grey colour, new printer M477fdw, cartridge compatible one 410A not HP. I am getting another HP410a genuine one but don't hold up much hope. Anyway appreciate your suggestions.

Hello, I have the same problem with one exception. I have a co-worker who will print the same file on the same printer and his is all clean and no shadow. yet when i print it the text is doubled. Its frustrating and I can not find what the difference is. print heads have been cleaned and replaced. Ink is not running low.
