This is a strange problem and not easy to explain.  When I changed the black ink cartridge, I kept getting an error message that it was not found.  Finally I took the cartridge all the way back out and looked at the empty spot.  And I saw the problem.  The little gasket that goes around the hole where the ink comes out was left behind by the previous cartridge.  It was mostly situated around the nozzle that the hole in the cartridge goes around when it is seated.  Does that make sense?

So I took a kleenex & wrapped it around a pen & kind of lightly scraped that little gasket out from around the nozzle.  It looked like I got it all, so I reseated the new ink cartridge, and from then on, I received the error message "There is a problem with the supply system.  Try replacing the cartridge...."

At one point I removed the print head and cleaned it up a little bit with some print head cleaning fluid I had leftover from a previous time when the print head just needed cleaning.  I have ordered a new print head cleaning & unclogging kit, but don't have it yet.   I think that maybe some of that gasket material might have gotten into the nozzle where the ink should travel through.  However, I also stuck a toothpick very lightly into the nozzle and was able to stick it all the way through with no resistance, so I think it is clear.

Has anybody ever heard of this happening before?  Does anybody have any tips or advice?

Thank you!

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. This seems like a hardware issue with the printer. If you have already performed the steps from the document An 'Ink System Failure' or 'System Supply Problem' Error and the issue persists, please reach out to HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Hope this helps!
