After getting a link from this site to download the recovery files for the m4080fx I was able to set up the hdd on the printer. The problem is the printer fires up and seems to do everything it is supposed to except acually printing or copying.
It goes through all the motions but then just says copying or printing but it never does do either.
Is it possable that a file from the download is corrupt or missing.

Recovery instructions specifically state that you must upgrade the firmware after a recovery. There have been users on here that have performed recovery and found exactly as you have, that not all functions work until after a firmware update. Until you have performed that update, I will not speculate further.

If it boots to ready but does not function it is more likely you need to update the firmware.

Go to support.hp.com and download the firmware file and there are instructions there.

A little more information so I can understand if I am doing this right. So I recovered the hard drive and the unit does fire up and even does a print or copy but then the screen just says printing or copying but never delivers a page. If I put the old hard drive back in it does print and copy but there is another problem with that hard drive and this is why I had to replace it. Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the firmware get loaded onto the machine and not the hard drive. If this is true I suspect it might now be the firmware. Or am I wrong about this. This is quite the challenge and I am hoping to solve it eventually.
