Hi!

I've a Samsung ML-2550 printer which started acting weirdly suddenly. After pushing the start button the screen flashes and the boot process seems in an infinite loop. Also I can hear a "click" sound each time after restart. Video recording: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qeMCM_Fzqd4GTxBNR_h0ihCMYJAApOtv/view

So far I tried with unplug the cables, and reset with pushing the power button longer. Also removed the cartridge and put back again. Nothing happened.

Could you please help me, what could cause this issue?

Hi @Kristof_SC ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The cycling restart loop occurring on your Samsung ML-2550 Laser Printer typically signals a hardware part malfunctioning during startup. The "click" noise probably comes from a relay or solenoid trying to activate a mechanism (such, as the fuser or primary drive gear) before the system fails and repeats the cycle.

According to the video the printer completes the power-on phase tries to "Initialize System " momentarily senses the cover/cartridge condition and then promptly reboots.

Possible Causes and Troubleshooting Steps

The following are the reasons for this particular boot loop issue, in older Samsung laser printers, listed in order of likelihood:

1. Fuser Unit Failure (Most Common)

The fuser unit (responsible for fusing the toner to the paper) consumes an amount of power and is, among the initial parts checked during startup. If it is malfunctioning, shorted or its internal temperature sensor is faulty the printers main board might identify an error and reboot to safeguard itself.

Action:

Find the fuser: It is typically reached by removing the printers back panel.

Visually inspect the fuser film/roller: Look for excessive tears, wrinkles, or dark residue.

Pay attention to the heating component: In the seconds of startup the fuser ought to begin warming. If it remains silent or if the "click" noise is instantly succeeded by a reboot it is the candidate, for the issue.

2. Main Motor or Gear Failure

The "click" might originate from the drive motor or a solenoid linked to the gear train that is not turning or moving properly. If the printer fails to verify the motor position, in the "Initialize System" stage it may cause a reset.

Action:

Turn the printer off.

Open the toner cartridge access door.

Carefully turn the roller/drum unit manually (if feasible). It ought to rotate without resistance. If it seems stuck or gritty a mechanical gear blockage exists.

3. Toner Cartridge Issue

Although you took out and replaced the cartridge the issue could be with the chip or the seating. This typically causes a distinct error notice such, as "Toner Empty" or "No Toner Cartridge" instead of a boot loop.

Action:

If you possess a verified working toner cartridge attempt to install it.

Verify that the cartridge is a Samsung product since incompatible third-party chips may occasionally lead to unusual startup problems.

4. Power Supply Unit (PSU) Instability

The PSU supplies designated voltage lines to the board, fuser and logic board. When the PSU begins to degrade ( due to aging capacitors) it may fail to maintain the required voltage as high-power parts (such, as the motor or fuser) attempt to pull current resulting in an instant power dip and continuous restart cycle.

Action:

Try plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet, bypassing any surge protectors or power strips, to rule out external power instability.

Unfortunately, testing or replacing the internal PSU requires advanced technical skill.

Hope this helps resolve your issue.
