Hp Officejet Pro 7740
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hi, I have just purchased an Hp Officejet Pro 7740 printer, It appears to be fully functional but I have a problem with the flatbed scanner. No matter what size of document I scan I am always left with artificial black edges, See photo (Blank A4 sheet).

This happens when using the official HP smart program or my Mac's built in software.

At first I thought it may be faulty but after further testing I think it may be a software / settings problem.

I say this as if I use the ADF / copy function / or even the HP smart app on my iPhone none produce the same issue.

It is only when using the flatbed to scan with one of the previously mentioned programs.

Scanning via my mobile to then send to my computer is obviously not a long term solution when it should work via the computer. Has anyone else had this issue or have any ideas how to fix it?

Many Thanks

John

Welcome to the HP support community.

Clean the scanner glass and underside of the scanner lid with a soft, lint-free cloth sprayed with glass cleaner.

  1. Turn the printer off, then disconnect the power cord.

  2. Lift the scanner lid.

  3. Spray a soft, lint-free cloth with glass cleaner, then wipe the scanner glass, glass strip (if present), the white backing under the scanner lid, and the white strip under the lid (if present) until clean, dry, and streak-free.

       CAUTION:

To protect the interior printer parts, do not spray the cleaner directly on the glass or on the underside of the lid.
