Hi @Sunshineandmoon,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Inkjet 4500 was working fine with a new ink cartridge and then suddenly stopped copying, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.

  • Check for Error Messages: Look for any error messages or lights on the printer display. This can provide valuable information about what might be wrong.
  • Inspect the Ink Cartridge: Ensure that the new ink cartridge is installed correctly and securely. Sometimes, a cartridge may not be seated properly, leading to printing issues.
  • Verify Ink Levels: Check the ink levels to make sure that the new cartridge has enough ink. Some printers may not function if the ink levels are too low.
  • Perform a Test Print: Use the printer's built-in test print function to determine if the issue is specific to copying or if it's a broader problem. If test prints fail as well, it could indicate a general printing problem.
  • Restart the Printer: Power off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then power it back on. This simple step can sometimes resolve temporary glitches.
  • Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. If not, visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers.
  • Check for Paper Jams: Inspect the printer for any paper jams or obstructions. Even a small piece of paper stuck in the printer can disrupt its functionality.
  • Reset the Printer: Some printers have a reset function. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a reset.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Visit the HP support website to check for and install any available firmware updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for the information I do appreciate it. I called Staples, and they say sometimes the ink cartridges are defective, so they are going to let me exchange it for another one. Thank you so much for your help
