@Dragon-Fur Thank you for this very clear answer. This now makes sense since I was using the "HP Smart" software. I'm not the OP, so I can't see where I would mark this as the "Solution" (but I would if I could).

Thank you for the reply. Customers just want to be able to use the products they purchased without needing ANY accounts or logins. I have far too many logins to track already and do not need another.

I wish HP could understand such a simple concept. I purchased the product and I just want to use it with no added complications.

I'm old enough to remember when we just installed the drivers for a device and it worked. We didn't even need an internet connection back then.

I just can't believe they have the guts to post a reply like this one.

My dad was trying to scan a document just now and told me he could no longer do it. I was perplexed at first, I had scanned a document couple of months before... and now, to my surprise, I had to login. What for? You want to improve it by counting how many times I use the scan? Just let me allow you to do so without getting any other information than that.

Just incredible, I won't buy HP Products any longer until you fix this.

The full driver is not listed for the Envy 4520.  Basic driver says it's for IT professionals, and below is the full listing.

Doesn't work. 

I'm redirected to a support page that has been 'temporarily' unavailable for the last 60 minutes.

The printer will be returned tomorrow and I will purchase a Brother instead.  No need to set up accounts and invasive connections.
