Officejet 4630 will not print or scan from printer

HP Recommended
HP officejet 4630 all in one
macOS 10.15 Catalina

I can print from my computer or mobile devices via WiFi, however, the ability to make copies from feeder or directly from the glass is not possible. I was making copies yesterday, and all of a sudden it stopped working. I’ve searched the feeds and found this solution below, but I’ve tried this twice and it still won’t work. It just makes a couple of chime noises.

in addition, I am not able to scan from my computer. Scanning from my computer gives me this message: scanner reported an error/ the scanner is busy

suggested fix from another feed from an HP Support person:

Try to perform a power drain to try and fix the issue. Here are the steps:

  • Remove the cartridges from the printer.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now, try making a copy and check if that helps.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

If the issue persists using a different wall outlet, partially lift the scanner lid, and then press the Copy button or icon. If the scanner light does not illuminate or move across the glass, it could be a hardware issue.

Let me know if this helps.
