HP Deskjet F4480 All-in-One Printer

With my old laptop, when I hit "scan" it would save it as a PDF file on my laptop.  With my new laptop, when I connected the printer and hit "scan", it simply scans the document and makes a hard copy instead of saving it electronically.  I"ve tried online help, but it doesn't recognize my printer as a scanner.

Hi @CraigE61,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like there might be an issue with the scanner settings on your new laptop. Let's try to troubleshoot the problem.

Here are some steps you can follow:

I request you to please run HP print and doc scan on the new laptop: Click Here

Check Default Settings: Verify that the default settings for scanning are configured to save files electronically. This can usually be found in the scanning software settings.

Update Drivers: Ensure that your printer and scanner drivers are up-to-date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause compatibility issues with new operating systems.

I hope this helps. Click Here

Update the printer firmware: Click here

Scan from Computer: Instead of initiating the scan directly from the printer, try initiating the scan from your computer using the scanning software. This allows you to customize settings and choose the electronic saving option.

Take care and have a good day.
