HP Officejet PRO 7740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

It's all on a WiFI network.

Before I scanned from my HP Officejet Pro 7740 to a map on my windows 10 PC. This worked fine for more than half a year. Suddenly (some months ago ...) it stopped working. The printer couldn't find the PC anymore. From the PC I can start a scan and I see it as a PDF and I can store it in the map. I see the printer has its usual IP address. And I can go into the webserver of the printer. The results of scandocter are strange. It sees the OJ7740 is installed however it can't find its IP address. Remove of the printer and a new install give no effect. (By the way scandocter still sees there are 2 other HP printers installed. These are old ones which I do not have anymore.). I have seen a message from scandocter (?) the printer is on the network however the network name doestn't correspond an earlier name of the SSD. I left out a bridged repeater in my network with the same name as the name of the original SDD. No results with this.

@TonyB5, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I see that you're unable to scan, let us try to isolate and resolve the issue-

Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

I recommend you delete the driver and root level and retry, follow the steps below:

1) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2) Select your HP Printer

3) Select Uninstall

4) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’

6) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.

7) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe”

😎 Click on the “Drivers” tab

9) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10) Select Ok

11) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12) Close Devices and Printers.

Use this link to download and install the new driver. Configure the printer and try scanning.

Also, refer to the document HP Printers - How to Scan (Windows)  for additional help.

Keep me posted.

It didn'worked. Finally I found out how to reset the printer totally. Go to screen on printer. Find on this screen: Reset to factory settings. After the reset this I start all over again with the installation and it worked.
