Greetings everyone,

 

As I was part of the troubleshooting and working with HP in trying to figure out the problems with Windows 11 24H2 updates and scanning via Windows 11 24H2, while we had the pnputil script for Command Prompt working or reverting to an earlier Windows 11 (which we are not going to do), Windows 11 24H2 had an update that Microsoft addressed for USB devices to work.

 

Now, it seems like the 25H2 update may be causing issues.  Similar problem but this time, the Scanjet 7000 S3 drivers are not staying. They are disappearing from Image devices.  

 

We had several reports where I tried to visit various stations to check what was causing the issue:

 

I tried multiple (newer) Scanjet 7000 S3 devices, tried different cables, wiped out the software and reinstalled.

 

While I was successful a few times where I would get an HP AIO Driver showing up, after a few uses, the driver would then disappear.  

 

Unfortunately, with HP not updating their software since 2022, doesn't help matters but will try to see if I can work with T3 again to see if we can figure out the issue.  

 

I know many people haven't received the 25H2 udpate yet, but wanted to see for those who have, if you are also having issues with your scanjet not working after the latested Windows 11 update (October 2025).

It's not only scanjets, there a a lot of HP devices that will not work of having problems working after Windows update.

Been testing out the new scanjet software and trying different ways to get the device to get noticed.  But I tried doing the following on cmd admin:

 

pnputil /delete-driver escl.inf /uninstall /force

 

And device manager suddenly picked it up.  I tried this before and it didn't work, so testing it out on other staff with scanners that were not working.

Any further results from attempting on other machines using the scanners? We have a few in our environment that are continuing to show the same results as 24H2 where it will work intermittently before the device becomes unrecognized.

I have done the following and each computer has been different:

 

Step 1 go to command prompt via admin priviliges: Type pnputil /delete-driver escl.inf /uninstall /force

 

Go to Device Manager and see if the scanner shows up under Imaging, if Not continue on below:

 

Step 2: Install the HP Universal Scan software: HP Universal Scan Software Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

 

And also install HP Smart: HP Smart

 

Restart the computer and the check again if the Device Manager is showing.  If not, go below:

 

a) Check for Windows Update - If you are using an HP computer, there may be a USB driver that will automatically update.

b) If you are using a Lenovo computer, run Lenovo Advantage - Check for updates and make sure the new Bios has updated 10/11.

 

If it's still not working:

Uninstall all HP Scanjet drivers and reinstall and see if it kicks in.

 

NOTE: If you have a printer with scanning priviliges and your Scanjet scanner and it's showing up on Imagine devices, you must uninstall the printer's scanner.

 

NOW HERE ARE EXTRAS:

I have seen it where it installs TWO Scanjets which conflict with each other.  One is Scanjet 7000 S3 by itself and the other with USB.  This can be a pain because one is conflicting with the other.

 

So, I install the freeware (very safe) Naps2 scanner software add a profile and it will detect which HP Scanner driver is correct.  And do a test scan on NAPS 2.  Once you are able to figure out which one is the good one, delete the bad one from Device Manager (admin needed).

 

It's a lot of troubleshooting and unfortunately, I think this is unfortunate for HP because the last update was in 2022 for their scanjet driver not being updated is not good at all and offices depened on their Scanjet 7000S3 and other Scanjet models.    May prompt businesses to look elsewhere for scanning needs.
