HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw

Whenever I try to use the scan to email function, it prompts me to put in a PIN number (which I don't know), and therefore, I get an incorrect username/password error when attempting to scan to email. Does anyone know how to fix this / properly set up scanning functionality on an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw? Thanks!

Hi @_a_k_,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the scan to email function on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw is prompting for a PIN number that you haven't set up. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue and properly set up scanning functionality.

  • Check the Printer's Documentation: The first step is to consult the user manual or documentation provided with your printer. It may contain specific instructions on how to set up and configure the scan to email function, including any necessary PIN codes.
  • Default PIN: Some printers come with a default PIN for scan to email functionality. Check if there's any default PIN provided in the documentation or on the printer itself (sometimes it's printed on a label).
  • Reset to Factory Defaults: If you're unable to find or remember the PIN, you can try resetting the printer to its factory defaults. This will erase any custom settings, including the PIN, so make sure you have any necessary information backed up before proceeding.
  • Access Printer Settings: You may need to access the printer's web interface or control panel settings to configure the scan to email function. Look for an option to set up email settings or scan settings, where you can enter your email credentials and adjust any necessary settings.

By following these steps, you should be able to properly set up and configure the scan to email function on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
