HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hi,

I am having trouble with OfficeJet pro 7740 printer and my MAC. The printing aspect works fine and in sync with my MAC, however the scanning feature has come up with numerous errors and is unable to connect or detect my MAC in the printer settings. I have tried multiple ways with HP Smart app and other various HP applications and all seems to be no good. I have also reset my printer to factory settings and restarted my network to see if that could be the issue but no change in terms of the scanning aspect. Does anyone have any thoughts of how to resolve this? Thanks

Hi @MCD10,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer's scanning feature on your Mac. Let's troubleshoot this problem step by step.

Check Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer and Mac are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Verify the printer's wireless signal strength.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Visit the HP support website for your printer model and check for any firmware updates. If available, update the firmware.

Update HP Software:

  • Make sure you have the latest HP software and drivers installed on your Mac. You can download the latest software from the HP support website.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart both your printer and your Mac.

HP Easy Scan:

  • Use the HP Easy Scan application, which is specifically designed for HP printers. Make sure you have the latest version installed.
  • Open HP Easy Scan and check if your printer is listed. If not, try adding it.

HP Smart App:

  • Ensure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app.
  • Open the app and check if your printer is listed. If not, try adding it.

Apple Image Capture:

  • Open the "Image Capture" application on your Mac.
  • Check if your HP printer is listed. If not, try adding it.

Reset Printing System:

  • Go to "System Preferences" on your Mac.
  • Select "Printers & Scanners," right-click on the printer, and choose "Reset printing system." Note that this will remove all printers from your list, so you'll need to re-add them.

Firewall/Antivirus:

  • Check if any firewall or antivirus software on your Mac is blocking the communication between your printer and computer. Temporarily disable them and check if the issue persists.

Manual IP Configuration:

  • Assign a static IP address to your printer. Refer to your printer manual or HP support for instructions on how to do this.

USB Connection (Temporary Test):

  • If possible, try connecting your printer to your Mac using a USB cable. Test if scanning works over the USB connection. If it does, it could indicate a network or wireless issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
