HP OfficeJet Pro 9025
Microsoft Windows 11

I start scanning photos using the photo setting then saving them to a photo file. After about 15-20 scans the scanner will suddenly shutdown right in the middle of another scan and return to the desktop. I have to log back into the scanning app and rescan the last photo. It will continue to scan for another 15-20 photos then suddenly shutdown just before the image is displayed on the screen.

I have run the HP Scan Doctor and other diagnostics but it won't fix the problem. I recently upgraded to Windows 11.

@MNDVAN

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Does it only happen with photos? Does it happen both from the feeder and scanner glass?

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

I have been scanning a large number of photos from my in-law's estate for my wife. At first everything was going along just fine. Suddenly the scanning program just closed out and the next thing I'm looking at is my desktop. I logged back into the HP scanner and proceeded to scan, thinking that I must have clicked on something by accident.

During the first bunch I think that I'd scanned about 80-100 photos. Then after scanning about 40-50 photos, it closed down again. I started keeping track of the number of photos between times of being logged out and the number became less and less each time. When it got down to logging out after scanning 15-20 photos.

I decided to go into the settings menu and remove the printer, fax, scanner, everything to do with my HP OfficeJet Pro 9025. I had unplugged the USB cable. Footnote: I started using a USB connection because I kept losing my wireless connection to the router (which is about 4 feet away under the desk the printer sits on).

I reconnected the USB wire and turned the power on to the printer. It auto installed the printer/scanner and I've been using it ever since. I haven't tried scanning a batch of photos yet due to some other family issues taking up my time. If it fails again I'll follow your suggestions to remove and reinstall it again. Thank you for your assistance. If the problem persists I'll be in touch.
