HP Scanjet 4890

Computer won't show said scanner as an available device to be able to open its user interface from the computer side, although it does generally sense it as a 'ding' when disconnecting its USB cable or power cycling it when connected via USB. It does show as attached in the Device Manager, but says no driver is exists. It ignores commands coming from the scanner itself (scan, copy, print), Every time I try to get an up-to-date driver, HP says it simply doesn't have one! I know this is an older scanner, but it has been perfectly functional and adequate in the past.

Downloaded the file 'setup_full_4800.exe' as the link in your msg directed me. Finally got that program to run in a Command Prompt window with admin permissions. It appeared to install quite a bit of stuff. After connecting the USB  from the scanner to my USB hub, I can now click on the 'scan' button of the scanner and I see the familiar HP dialog that asks what is being scanned, bit-res, etc., and where to direct the results of the scan. When I set all of those and finally hit the 'scan' button of that dialog, beyond a few tones, nothing happens except a subsequent Error dialog stating 'Unable to communicate with HP scanning software. Please verify that it has been installed is is working properly. If this problem persists, please shut down your application and try again.' with an OK button.

CLOSER B UT NOT WORKING YET!
