Photosmart 7525
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

So I was scanning some Family History photos when the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) just stopped working. placing new photos in the tray, I no longer get the acceptance ding. I go through the motions telling it where to save the scan, then it process the reques. It does not load anything or even makes an attempt. It then makes a clicking/grinding noise from the motor and pops up a original misfeed error.

This also has stopped the flatbed scanner from being accessable as it still thinks the ADF has photos in it; or something like that.

I have not only cleaned it out, but I've removed and inspected several layers of the ADF housing.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Are you able to copy from the ADF and the scanner glass?

Let's try to reset the Printer here:

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.

Try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Let me know if this helps.

I followed this and went a step further. I took it in to a local Les Olsen company printer repair. It was unplugged for 2 hours, same results. They could not figure it out either and recommend that I open it up and look for a possible staple or dust.

I'm willing to do this but opening a printer is a big risk. It might never go back together. Lol I'll try the firmware update later today, but I think I already tried that route once.

Sure, do keep us posted 🙂

No, I'm not able to copy from the ADF. It still acts like there is a missed error.

I also tried the HP doctor program with no success.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that while I was using the HP doctor I was able to get the glass bed scanner to work. This was during one of it's tests. It was somehow able to bypass the ADF error. The glass bed was able to function normally (scan & copy) while in the HP doctor test area.
