Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

Officejet 9018
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I scan a document loaded  in the auto feeder using the printer control panel the document will auto feed and scan to my computer.  If I use the scan function in the HPSMART application the document in the auto feeder will not load and it just returns a blank page.

Any way to correct this?

Thanks!

The Settings must all be in agreement.

For example, a place to check:

  • Open HP Smart for Windows
  • Click Printer Settings
  • Click Advanced Settings
  • Tab Settings

Scroll down...

  • Select Preferences > Tray and Paper Management

Check / Adjust the paper settings to match the page size of the paper on which the document is printed.

  • Exit out of Advanced Settings back to the HP Smart home menu
  • Select Scan
  • Select Scanner / Import / Camera
  • Select the Page Size

Note: If you are scanning from the automatic document feeder (ADF), you might experience problems with your scanned document if you select a paper size larger than the size of the document loaded in the ADF.

  • Select the Source and, if available, whether you want "two sided" (options are model dependent)
  • Preview / Scan your document

What if?

No joy?

Try Webscan - this feature is not dependent on the printer software / applications installed on the computer.

At the least, it might help you decide whether the ADF is working as expected.

Webscan – located in the Embedded Web Server (EWS) – No additional software

If the printer is on the network,

  • Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
  • Tab Settings > Security > Administrator Settings > make sure Webscan is checked / enabled
  • Tab Scan > Webscan

or

Although Webscan is not dependent on the HP Smart App, You can access EWS and Webscan from within the HP Smart Application.

  • Open HP Smart for Windows
  • Click Printer Settings
  • Click Advanced Settings
  • Tab Settings > Security > Administrator Settings > make sure Webscan is checked / enabled
  • Tab Scan > Webscan

Examples - EWS - Set / Enable Webscan - Use Webscan

Turns out the answer was much simpler.  The scan function in HP Smart requires you to choose the source, Document Feeder or glass,  in a drop down menu.  My previous HP printer used a different HP application for scans that was smart enough to detect documents in the auto-feeder and did not required you to choose it.   Seems like the newer HPSMART application is not as 'smart' as it could be.  Seems like a real oversight when the application was designed.

Yes, makes sense - select the Source.

Clarify - Add Example for "how-to"

General Example...

HP Smart for Windows - Scan - Document - Menu setup
