Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Printer will no longer scan using HP Smart but will using  Windows Scan app. on Dell Latitude E6410

I've uninstalled HP software and downloaded latest version but when I try to install, Windows overrides and suggests that it's not necessary! 

How can I force an installation to try to recover scan function? Printer works fine!

@MikeTUK I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and retry, follow the steps below: 

 

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features 

2.) Select your HP Printer 

3.) Select Uninstall 

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers 

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device' 

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo. 

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s") 

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab 

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom 

10.) Select Ok 

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows 

12.) Close Devices and Printers 

 

Then, Click here to access the HP website, find the drivers compatible with your windows and install it.

If the issue persists, please go ahead and install the windows built-in drivers: 

 

If a full feature driver from HP is not available for your printer, you must install the built-in print driver. A full feature driver for one or more Windows versions is not available for your printer, either from the CD that shipped with your printer or from the HP website.

   NOTE:

Where is the download button? The HP print driver is built into the Windows operating system or is installed through the Windows Update feature on your computer. You do not need to download anything from a website in order to print, scan, or fax.

Many thanks for your reply and apologies for the delayed response!

 

Could you please clarify in Apps, which HP software I should delete? The printer does not show! I have Photo Creations, Scan & Capture, Smart, Support Solutions Framework and Update. Would it be best to uninstall all?

@MikeTUK delete anything with the name HP on it, when done, reinstall the full feature software to resolve the issue.

Hi

 

I’ve followed all the instructions, but when I try to execute the download, Windows comes up with a message offering to do it automatically and I am not able to complete the full installation!

 

I have also installed the HP Smart app which shows an orange triangle “Printer status unknown”  and a message that I cannot scan from this printer. This is where I was when first made contact. Is there a way to ignore the Windows automatic product detection process and install the software manually?
