I have gone through the entire forum searching out an answer.  I did EVERYTHING from downloading drivers, checking paper paths, inserting a new stack of paper, cleaned all the gears and rollers - there's a persistant message telling me that the original is jammed in the document feeder......   I can't get past this spot.  I can't print - I can't disable the scanner so that I can just use the printer as a printer.

Can anyone tell me how to disable the printer's scanner so that I can print?

The problem is that there are limited options - if the printer thinks the automatic document feeder (ADF) is jammed, it it cannot print (nor scan).

Known Solutions:

 Paper Jam Error

Excerpted:

note:
Paper jams can be real or false. The printer might report a paper jam even when there is no jammed paper. The following steps apply to both real and false paper jams.

If you have not done so, do check again - the ADF does have its own assembly that may have a bit of paper in it somewhere or the ADF rollers may need a repeat check / cleaning.

In case the error message is not entirely complete (or accurate), do remove the duplexer from the back of the printer and check inside that area, too.  Tiny paper, bits of thread or debris can easily hide in odd spots.

The document includes a printer reset option that may clear the message if the mechanics are indeed "OK".

I doubt the drivers are involved - and you've tried reinstalling anyway.  Good thought, though - weird things do happen.
