Hi. i bought my 2 in 1 printer used, but when it arrived it was working fine and i have printed around 15 times with it. As of yesterday, the printer turns on, charges and even spits out the blue card but does nothing else. It won't turn off by using the power switch, and doesn't react to the cover being opened while on either (no error message in app, no red light). I have to use the reset button to turn the printer off, so yes of course i reset it already.  I also fully charged it. I even reset my phone. There's enough paper in the printer too, no jam.

Another problem is that it won't print at all now except when i take a picture with it's camera. In the app, it shows as connected.  My bluetooth and location is on too. But everytime i pick something to print it cues up, and then shows me an error message that the printer isn't connected and to try again when the printer is on. I'm out of ideas on what to do.

Edit: I just remembered, it tried to update the firmware 2 days ago (a day before it stopped working) and it took an awfully long time. It might be because of my wifi having problems, and I'm not sure if it updated in the end but the message for an update didn't show up again. No idea of that could have something to do with my problem but i thought I'd add it anyway.

@BreadloafPng, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Based on your description, it seems the printer may have encountered a firmware-related malfunction, especially since the problems began after a firmware update attempt. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Perform a Hard Reset

You mentioned using the reset button, but let’s ensure it’s done correctly:

  • Turn on the printer.
  • Use a paperclip to press and hold the reset button (next to the charging port) for 7 seconds.
  • Release the button and wait for the printer to restart.

Check Firmware Update Status

If the firmware update was interrupted, the printer may be in a semi-functional state.

  • Open the HP Sprocket app.
  • Go to Menu > Sprocket > Printers > Your Printer > Printer Settings.
  • Check if a firmware update is available. If yes, try updating again with a stable Wi-Fi connection.

Re-Pair the Printer

Sometimes Bluetooth pairing can get corrupted:

  • In your phone’s Bluetooth settings, forget the Sprocket device.
  • Turn off Bluetooth and restart your phone.
  • Open the HP Sprocket app, turn Bluetooth back on, and re-pair the printer.

Clear the Print Queue

If jobs are stuck:

  • In the app, go to Print Queue and clear any pending jobs.
  • Try printing a new photo after clearing.

Test Camera vs App Printing

Since printing works via the built-in camera but not the app:

  • This confirms the printer hardware is functional.
  • The issue likely lies in the app or firmware communication.

Try a Different Device

Install the HP Sprocket app on another phone and try printing from there. This helps isolate whether the issue is with your phone or the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
