HP 455 Programmable Wireless Keyboard
Microsoft Windows 11

First, I am unable to select a "Board" that actually represents my problem. I try to "Show All" and select "Desktop Hardware," and I'm immediately shunted back to "Printer Errors blahblah." Very frustrating.

Second, I cannot reach Support in any fashion. When I try to reach Support, I'm contantly taken back to a page that says, "Sorry, we can't determine if you can get Support. Try again later." Been happening for several days.

My wireless programmable 455 keyboard simply stopped working. I'm 35-year career IT, so I have tried everything: batteries, restarting, reinstall of HP software, moving the USB dongle, and so on. It powers up, HP software recognizes it, but there is no response to any keyboard presses.

Warranty expires in 15 days. I'm on the verge of looking to get a refund from my credit card, due to my inability to contact HP. This is my last try.

Hi @JeffWilder,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it can be to deal with support issues, especially after trying so many troubleshooting steps. Let's focus on your HP 455 Programmable Wireless Keyboard, which isn’t responding despite being powered on and recognized by the software.

Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

1. Check Connection and Power:
Batteries: Even if you've already replaced the batteries, double-check that they are installed correctly and are fresh. Sometimes, even new batteries can be faulty.
USB Dongle: Ensure the dongle is securely connected to a USB port. Try different USB ports, especially ones on the back of your desktop, as they might provide a more stable connection.

2. Remove Interference:
Other Wireless Devices: Turn off other wireless devices near your keyboard and dongle to rule out interference.
Distance: Ensure the keyboard is within a reasonable distance from the dongle. Try using it closer to the computer to see if that makes a difference.

3. Device Manager Check:
Windows Device Manager: Go to Device Manager and look for any yellow warning icons next to the keyboard entry. If there are any, right-click and select "Update Driver."
Uninstall and Reinstall: If there are no warning icons, try uninstalling the keyboard from Device Manager. After uninstalling, restart your computer and allow Windows to reinstall the keyboard drivers automatically.

4. Check for Conflicting Software:
Conflicting Software: If you have any third-party keyboard software or macros running, try disabling or uninstalling them. Sometimes, conflicts can prevent the keyboard from working properly.

5. Reset the Keyboard:
Reset Instructions: If available, consult the keyboard's manual for any reset instructions. Some keyboards have a specific key combination to reset settings.

6. Test on Another Device:
If possible, try connecting the keyboard to another computer or laptop to see if it works there. This can help determine if the issue is with the keyboard itself or the original device.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
