New Sprocket Select cannot connect to iPhone Bluetooth. Error “connection unsuccessful.  Make sure the HP Sprocket Select…. Is  turned on and in range”.  I have no other devices paired to the phone. I have turned Bluetooth on and off and also turned phone on and off.  I’m have looked at old similar posts in this forum. Can someone please help with current information on how to resolve this. Thank you.

Hi @Zebs22

Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

Got it — thanks for sharing all the details. The HP Sprocket Select has a couple of quirks when pairing to iPhones, so let’s go step by step:

What To Do

Forget the Device in iOS Bluetooth Settings

On your iPhone → SettingsBluetooth.

If you see HP Sprocket Select listed (even as “Unsuccessful” or “Not Connected”), tap the ⓘ icon → Forget This Device.

Turn Bluetooth off and back on.

Reset the Sprocket

Make sure it’s powered on.

Locate the small reset pinhole near the charging port.

Use a paperclip to press/hold for ~5 seconds until the printer turns off.

Power it back on.

Pair ONLY Through the HP Sprocket App

Don’t pair directly in Bluetooth settings first.

Instead, download/update the HP Sprocket app from the App Store.

Open the app → it will search for the printer → select HP Sprocket Select to pair.

If iOS asks for Bluetooth permissions, allow them.

Check Firmware Updates

Inside the HP Sprocket app → Menu (☰) → Printer SettingsUpdate Firmware.

This often resolves connection loops on newer iOS builds.

Proximity & Charging

Keep your Sprocket within 6 inches of your phone for the first connection.

Make sure the printer has at least 50% battery or keep it plugged in while pairing.

Common Pitfalls

Pairing directly in iOS before the app → causes the "Connection Unsuccessful" loop.

Low battery on the printer → fails to advertise Bluetooth properly.

Old HP Sprocket app version → not fully compatible with latest iOS updates.

Try these steps in order, and it should connect.
