Our wifi kept dropping, printer went offline. We got it to go back on, but now it is doing this - making the print completed noise without actually printing. It also does not keep the job in the queue, so it thinks it did print.

We are using a Windows 10 laptop and HP Envy 7640 series printer. Have had it a little over a year, I think, and it's been the best printer I've ever had in my life until now. Even if something is wrong with it, I will blame AT&T for the crappy wifi/tv/internet service.

I have a business and HAVE to print within the next 12 hours. I'm dying right now!

I tried everything listed - unplugging, holding the button to reset... it just does the same thing now.

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

MKazi is at your service.

I understand that you have an HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer and it makes a printing sound but does not print the document. Fabulous diagnostics, spectacular analysis of the issue by you. Kudos to you for that.

I'll be glad to assist you with this case.

Is the printer able to make a photocopy successfully? If yes then it indicates that the printer and ink cartridges are all fine.

Are you using original HP ink cartridges or refilled ink?

While you respond to that. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • On the printer control panel, touch the Ink icon () to display the current estimated ink levels.

If the ink levels are fine then follow these steps to print a Print Quality Diagnostic report.

  1. Load U.S. Letter or A4 size, unused, plain white paper into the input tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, swipe the display to the left, and then touch Setup (). The Setup menu displays.

  3. Touch Reports, and then touch Print Quality Report. A Print Quality Diagnostic page prints.

If the print quality diagnostic page does not print correctly then try cleaning the ink cartridges as described below:

  • Follow these steps to clean the cartridges from the printer control panel.

  • Load U.S. Letter or A4 size, unused, plain white paper into the input tray.

  • On the printer control panel, swipe the display to the left, and then touch Setup (). The Setup menu displays.

  • Swipe the display up, and then touch Printer Maintenance.

  • Touch Clean Cartridges. A Print Quality Diagnostic report prints.

  • Examine the Print Quality Diagnostic report.

    • If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Proceed when prompted to continue the next level of cleaning. Repeat these steps for the third cleaning stage, if necessary.

You may also attempt to clean the ink cartridges manually by following the steps mentioned in "Step 6: Clean the area around the ink nozzles" from this HP document: https://hp.care/2j92I9u

I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Please feel free to let me know how it goes.I'll be glad to assist you.

Cheers! 🙂
