Hi!

I have one of the 1st gen Sprocket printers which worked flawless until recently. I could print single images and even collage with very good quality from my Iphone.

Today, when I tryed to print a collage as usual, i got bad results. Will not resize, just cuts off parts of the pictures. Restarting the phone/printer, uninstalling/reinstallin the app, reloading the picture ..... nothing helps. It is like the automatic rescaling option has disapperared. I have an iPhone with latest firmvare, latest app and so on.

Any idea?

Hi @Cachinnation

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with the HP Sprocket printer where the collage feature isn't working properly and images are being cut off instead of resized. Given that you mentioned the printer and app worked fine previously, it’s possible that the issue could be related to software or settings. Here's a step-by-step troubleshooting guide to help resolve the problem:

1. Check for App Updates

You mentioned that the app is up-to-date, but just to make sure:

  • Go to the App Store on your iPhone and check for any updates for the HP Sprocket app. Even minor updates can sometimes fix bugs that affect printing.
  • If there is an update available, install it and see if that resolves the issue.

2. Check the Image Format and Size

The issue might be related to how the images are being sent to the printer:

  • Image Resizing: When printing collages, the app should automatically resize the images to fit the layout. However, if the image resolution is too high or too low, it could cause the app to cut off parts of the image or not scale it correctly.
    • Try resizing the image manually before printing. Use the app's in-built editor or your phone’s editing tools to crop or resize the image so it fits within the print area.
  • Collage Layout: Some collage options in the app may not automatically fit all images correctly. Try switching to a different collage template or try a simpler layout to test if that works better.

3. Reset Printer Settings

Sometimes, a reset can fix problems with connectivity or printing behavior:

  • Factory Reset the Sprocket: To reset the printer, you can turn it off and hold down the power button for about 10 seconds, then release. This may help restore default settings and clear any glitches.
  • After the reset, reconnect the printer to your phone via Bluetooth and try printing again.

4. Check for Software Issues

It’s possible that the issue is coming from a software conflict:

  • Reinstall the HP Sprocket App: Uninstall the app from your iPhone and then reinstall it. This ensures that any corrupted files or settings get removed and replaced with a fresh install.
    • After reinstalling, log back in and try printing a collage again.
  • Clear Cache: Some apps accumulate cached data that can cause issues. Try clearing the app’s cache or data (if that option is available in the app settings).

5. Check Print Quality and Paper

If the images are being cut off or incorrectly resized, there might be an issue with the print quality settings or paper alignment:

  • Check Paper Loading: Ensure that you’re using the correct type of paper (HP Sprocket paper) and that it is loaded properly in the printer. Sometimes paper misalignment can cause printing errors, such as missing sections of images.
  • Print Quality Settings: Within the app, check the print settings and make sure it’s not set to a lower quality or size limit that could affect the output.

6. Check for Firmware Updates on the Printer

Occasionally, printers like the Sprocket receive firmware updates that improve functionality or resolve bugs:

  • Open the HP Sprocket app and go to the settings to check if there’s a firmware update available for the printer.
  • If an update is available, make sure your printer is connected via Bluetooth and follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

If you go down one, post there are instructions on how to fix this issue. I had the same issue and used the instructions below, and it fixed the problem. I can now print my reading journal covers in the collage format without them being zoomed in.
